What is nipple correction?

A nipple correction refers to the surgical alteration of the size and/or shape of the nipple. The medical term for this procedure is nipple correction. It is usually performed for aesthetic reasons, but in rare cases medical reasons such as functional problems or persistent pain can also be the reason for the operation.

Who is nipple correction suitable for?

A nipple correction in Stuttgart is suitable for anyone who is dissatisfied with the appearance of their nipples, for example because they appear too large or have an unusual shape that does not correspond to their own ideal image. These are often so-called inverted nipples that need to be corrected for aesthetic reasons. In addition, nipple correction is also suitable for alleviating functional problems or health complaints caused by the current shape or size of the nipples. Nipple correction can be performed on both women and men.

What methods of nipple correction are there?

There are various reasons and goals for nipple correction, for each of which different methods can be considered. The most common procedures are nipple reduction, areola correction and correction of inverted nipples.

During nipple reduction in Stuttgart, the nipple itself is reduced in size by removing the excess tissue with a wedge-shaped incision.

If a reduction of the areola is desired, a circular incision is made around the areola and then the excess skin is removed.

The correction of inverted nipples in Stuttgart is somewhat more complex. Here, a short incision is made at the edge of the nipple, through which the tissue strands that were responsible for the shape of the nipples are cut. In some cases, it is necessary to insert additional tissue to stabilize the nipples in their new position.

What should I consider before nipple correction?

You should avoid alcohol and nicotine for a few days before the procedure to reduce the risk of complications and wound healing disorders. If you are taking blood-thinning medication, please discontinue it temporarily in consultation with Dr. Schumacher.

How does nipple correction in Stuttgart work?

Before a nipple correction, Dr. Schumacher will conduct a detailed consultation with you in which you describe your specific wishes. After examining your nipples, he will present you with suitable treatment methods, explain the benefits and the procedure and inform you of any possible risks.

The correction itself takes about 1 hour and is usually performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia (under general anesthesia if desired). As soon as the anaesthetic has taken effect, Dr. Schumacher makes the appropriate incisions and removes the excess tissue. If necessary, he reshapes the nipples before suturing the wounds professionally. You can then leave the practice and are usually fit for social life again 1-2 days later. However, please follow the instructions for aftercare to support the healing process and the results of the operation.

What should be considered after nipple correction?

Even if the treatment is performed on an outpatient basis, you should take it easy in the following days. Allow yourself some rest to recover from the procedure. You will wear a special bandage for the first 1-2 weeks and then a support bra for at least another 2 weeks to help the wound heal and stabilize and protect your breast. During this time, you should not do any sport or other physically strenuous activities.

Are there any risks associated with nipple correction?

A nipple correction is a surgical procedure. With every surgical procedure, there is a risk of secondary bleeding, wound healing disorders and infections. These risks can be reduced to a minimum by an experienced surgeon with many years of experience, such as Dr. Schumacher, if the procedure is carried out professionally and in compliance with the strictest hygiene standards. Theoretically, there is a possibility that correcting the nipples (especially inverted nipples) can impair the ability to breastfeed. It is therefore advisable to have such a procedure performed only after family planning has been completed.

How much does a nipple correction in Stuttgart cost?

The cost of a nipple correction depends on the method and the amount of treatment required and can therefore vary greatly from person to person. After a preliminary examination and a personal consultation, we will be happy to provide you with a customized quote for your nipple correction in Stuttgart.

Frequently asked questions about nipple correction in Stuttgart

Yes, both nipple reduction and areola reduction are possible. In both cases, excess tissue is removed; in the case of nipple reduction, the nipple is reshaped. Depending on the type of correction, the incisions are made above or around the nipple.

No, the area is locally anesthetized for the procedure. Treatment under general anesthesia is also possible on request. Wound pain may occur after the operation, which can last for a few days, but can be treated very well with conventional painkillers.

Inverted nipples are the name for a special shape of the nipples. In this case, the nipples do not protrude forward but are retracted inwards. This is due to shortened strands of connective tissue, which usually exist from birth, but can be severed by surgery so that the nipples bulge outwards.

A nipple reduction or areola correction does not usually affect the ability to breastfeed. However, correcting a nipple can lead to a loss of the ability to breastfeed. For this reason, you should only have such a procedure performed once you have already completed your family planning.

Dr. Schumacher attaches great importance to a scar-sparing incision technique and always makes the incisions so that they are barely visible later on. In nipple correction, the incisions are usually made in the pigmented nipple area or around the areola.
